HER STORY
Skilyr was initially diagnosed with absence epilepsy after having a small
head collision with another child at day care. Skilyr has continued to
have medication resistant seizures and she started to have bad rashes.
In May of 2023 Skilyr began to become really weak and lost her stamina.
By July of 2023, she was deteriorating and began to fall. Her right leg
is getting stiff to the point that she is unable to bend her leg. She
begins to drag her right foot when walking. They live in a two story home
and Skilyr keeps falling down the stairs and having difficulty going up
and down.
The Martin family has had to attend many appointments with specialists,
traveling from Pittsburgh to Morgantown numerous times. They have had
to pay out of pocket expenses for medical appointments, gas, copayments
and deductibles. They currently do not profit anything from owning the
restaurant and being a new business, so they are trying to make ends meet
on Nathan’s (Skilyr's dad) income alone.
Skilyr recently had MRIs done and it was found that she has edema in her
lumbosacral region. X-rays show that she has swelling in her joints and
edema throughout soft tissues in her elbows. She was recently hospitalized
in WVU Childrens Hospital for 6 days to find out that her seizures have
changed to generalized epileptic seizures and she was having a severe
drug reaction to medications that she had been on that have wreaked havoc
on her little body. Skilyr is now seeing numerous specialists to figure
out why she is having edema in her joints, severe pains in her hips and
frequent falling. Her primary care doctor is recommending her get involved
with Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia to further have Skilyrs complex
case looked at and get a proper diagnosis.
On Skilyr's behalf we are seeking help from our community in obtaining
funds to help with bills that have become behind, to help with any out
of pocket expenses, upcoming medical bills and to assist in preparing
for travel as they try to get outside opinions at bigger hospitals to
help Skilyr. We have seen our little community come together so many times
to help those in need, let's come together for Skilyr and her family!
If you can help at all it will be greatly appreciated and all prayers
for Skilyr are appreciated as well! Thank you so much!
