~About Nineveh~

NINEVEH, is an early 1800's town that sits in the corner of South Western Pennsylvania.
The little Village of Nineveh was once a happening place and at one time had 4 gas stations, a hotel, two churches, a high school, grade school, a post office, general store, two doctor's offices, a volunteer fire dept., three blacksmith shops, a funeral parlor, a boarding house, a feed store, and a switch baoard office.

Now in 2009 it is home to a variety of people and still has a post office, small general store, laundry mat, community center, pre-school and volunteer fire department.
Gone are the days of the when time seemed to stand still but things still tend to slow down when you visit the area. The Hopkins Store is still a favorite stopping place for many along their travels. The store no longer carries feed or blue jeans but you can still find most of the items you need in a pinch.
They also still carry a large variety of ice-cream, hot sub-sandwhiches are available and coffee is always brewed and ready to serve.

Each year for the 4th of July a little traddion was started up where the town kids gather and have a little parade followed by a community picnic and fireworks.
The small parade through town consists of the kids riding their bikes, 4-wheelers, skate boards, or horses from one end of the village to the other.
The parade ends at the community center and the festivities begin.

In the summer time you'll see dozen's of bikes from the Gold Wing Club parked at the Hopkins Store on their way through heading off to finish one of their long rides.
They always like to stop stretch their legs and get an ice-cream cone.*pictures

I'm told this was the old blacksmith building.
Also used for other things throughout the years.
Heard it also may have been the old township building.

This building is along side the road as you enter Nineveh headnig 18 North.

House to the right where you see the side porch is where the Doctor W.S. Throckmorton's office used to be.
Another Docotor named Doc Murry was also in Nineveh. Home where he had his office is no longer standing.

Winter 2003

We had a lot of snow during the winter 2003
(most of the snow fell in February)

There was so much snow we even had deer coming up on our sidewalks looking for food and trying to get around.

Winter 2010 topped 2003 that's for sure.
